The Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Tatiana Moskalkova arrived in the Republic of Tatarstan on an official visit on August 9.
On the first day of the working visit, the Commissioner met with members of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Tatarstan.The participants agreed on constructive cooperation and coordination of efforts to protect the rights of citizens during the electoral campaign of 2016.
Tatiana Moskalkova expressed her confidence that in the Republic of Tatarstan elections will be held peacefully, democratically, and the will of the people will be taken into account in full.
Within the frameworks of the official visit, Ms. Moskalkova met representatives of public organizations of the republic, which discussed the main directions of cooperation with the human rights of state power, as well as federal and regional ombudsmen.
Meetings of the Federal Ombudsman with the Republic of Tatarstan President's Office head Asgat Safarov and the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Tatarstan Ilgiz Gilazov took place on August 9. The parties discussed the situation with human rights in the region and outlined the promising ways of cooperation to protect the rights and liberties of citizens.Particular attention was paid to the controversial issue individual housing constructions demolition.
Furthermore, the Commissioner met with representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan and visited with them a local temporary detention center. After listening to detainees, Ms. Moskalkova promised to assist in solving the problems within her power.
