Ella Pamfilova: “The institution of the Commissioner for Human Rights has a high status in Tatarstan”

On April 16, in Kazan, Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Ella Pamfilova, First Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan Alexei Pesoshin, Commissioner for Human Rights in Tatarstan Saria Saburskaya and other official took part in a meeting of Volga District Human Rights Coordination Board.
"The Institution of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia is one of the achievements of democratic reforms in our country," Pesoshin said. He noted that today more than 100 countries have such institutions. "The creation of these structures contributes to forming constitutional democracy and developing legal consciousness of citizens", he went on to say and reminded that the Human Rights Strategy for 2014-2018 years was launched in the republic last year.
Pesoshin noted that the republic has developed an effective system of grant support for socially-oriented non-profit organizations. "Our main task is to do everything necessary to protect the basic interests of the citizens. Together, we must sustain the achieved quality of life,” he said to the participants of the Coordination Board.
Pamfilova shared her impressions from visiting Tatarstan. She expressed her hope that everyone present at the meeting will be able to make use of Tatarstan experience and apply this experience in their regions. “The institution of the Commissioner for Human Rights has a high status in Tatarstan,” Ella Pamfilova said.
