The appeal has been resolved positively!

The Office of the Human Rights Commissioner of the Republic of Tatarstan received a complaint from a convicted prisoner named I., who is being held in Pre-Trial Detention Facility No. 5 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Republic of Tatarstan. The complainant reported possible violations of antitrust laws by the Kaluzhskoye JSC store, which sells goods to inmates on the premises of the facility.

According to the convicted prisoner, the Kaluzhskoye JSC store, which serves Pre-Trial Detention Facility No. 5 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Republic of Tatarstan, inflates the prices of its products and applies an unjustified markup. He also reported instances of pressure to purchase additional items, specifically bags, and refusal to sell to inmates who refused to purchase the additional item.

To protect the complainant's rights, we contacted the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia in the Republic of Tatarstan. Following the inspection, the head of the Chistopol territorial department of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing for the Republic of Tatarstan issued a warning to Kaluzhskoye JSC regarding the inadmissibility of violating consumer protection laws.

Following our intervention, the identified violations were rectified. Kaluzhskoye JSC stopped forcing bags on customers, and they are now provided free of charge to customers.
