Legal assistance should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their detention conditions!

Yesterday, we held a Legal Aid Day for inmates at Correctional Colony No. 5 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan. Consultations were provided by representatives of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Justice of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan, the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Kazan Employment Center, the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Protection of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Social Fund of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Tatarstan, as well as a lawyer and a notary.

During the consultation period, a total of 13 requests were received. Among those requesting assistance were foreign citizens from Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. The requests covered medical care, medications, distance education, the procedure for appealing court decisions in civil cases, determining disability status, transferring to a correctional facility at the place of registration, consideration of applications for parole and forced labor, and obtaining Russian citizenship. Everyone who contacted us received explanations and recommendations for further action.

We also visited a rehabilitation unit for convicts serving lenient sentences. We observed how the work is organized and the conditions created for the rehabilitation of convicts suffering from drug and psychotropic substance addiction.
