Today we held a meeting on the work of rehabilitation teams for convicts suffering from drug and psychotropic substance addiction. This is an extremely serious issue - both for the correctional system and for society as a whole.
We discussed the effectiveness of existing rehabilitation programs, staffing, and problematic issues that need to be taken into account in the further development of this area. We also considered the possibility of organizing a rehabilitation team based at Penal Colony No. 5, as well as the prospects for implementing the project in pre-trial detention facilities. Currently, there are such rehabilitation teams based at Penal Colony No.19 and Penal Colony No. 2, and they are proving their effectiveness.
I believe it is important that such initiatives find support and receive further development. The work of rehabilitation teams is a chance to really change a person's fate, to return to a healthy and dignified lifestyle.
We are planning to prepare a video with the participation of the convicts themselves undergoing rehabilitation. They will share how participating in the program changes their perception of themselves, others and life in general.
