Following the intervention of the Human Rights Ombudsman in the Republic of Tatarstan, measures were taken to prevent pollution of a reservoir in the city of Almetyevsk

Citizen F. in her notification No. 5870211 to the SIS RT “Public Control” asked for help in solving the problem of wastewater entering the Bigashka River in the city of Almetyevsk through a sewer pipe.

Following the review of this notification, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan posted a response warning about the inadmissibility of violating mandatory requirements of environmental legislation by liquidating the pipe specified in the appeal.

During the monitoring of citizen notifications, we found that no specific measures were taken to implement this notification, in connection with which the Commissioner, in order to protect the rights of citizens to favorable living conditions, sent a letter to the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan on the adoption of comprehensive measures to prevent pollution of the specified reservoir.

After our intervention, the Ministry reviewed this notification again. The responsible persons plugged the storm drain pipe in the well specified in the appeal and at the moment the ingress of wastewater into the Bigashka River has been prevented.
