The Human Rights Ombudsman in the Republic of Tatarstan, Sariya Saburskaya, visited two private boarding houses where elderly citizens are kept

The day before, the republic was shocked by the news about an institution that housed elderly people with disabilities and the disabled. The conditions were unacceptable, and the prosecutor's office, having inspected the institution, demanded that it be closed. An investigation is currently underway.

According to the Family Code of the Russian Federation (Articles 87 and 88), adult children are obliged to support their disabled parents in need of assistance and take care of them. It should be noted that in the Republic of Tatarstan, there are 34 institutions for the elderly and disabled, including 6 for citizens with mental disorders, 26 boarding houses for the elderly and disabled, 2 for people without a fixed abode, in which about 5 thousand people live.

Today, the Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Tatarstan, Sariya Saburskaya, visited two private boarding houses that house elderly citizens: "Heart of Harmony" and "Milena". During her visit, the Ombudsman of Tatarstan spoke with residents, staff, and the management of the boarding houses. At the moment, 72 people live in Milena, and 102 in Serdtse Harmonii. The conditions are satisfactory, no unsanitary conditions were found anywhere, and no complaints were made about the food or living conditions. The elderly citizens are really cared for and provided with all the necessary assistance.

“We are all in different life situations, and it is impossible to speak unequivocally about boarding houses,” shared Sariya Saburskaya.

Monitoring of the activities of private boarding houses will continue in the near future, and based on the results, a round table is planned with the involvement of interested ministries and departments.
