Today, Azat Khusainov, Lead Consultant for the Department for Restoring Citizens' Rights at the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner in the Republic of Tatarstan, and Gulia Balafendieva, our public assistant for Kazan, visited Pretrial Detention Facility No. 5 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan in Chistopol.
During the visit, they inspected six cells, a punishment cell, as well as the facility's bakery, cafeteria, and bath and laundry facilities. Individual interviews were held with detainees to determine whether they had any complaints or appeals, and the provisions of current legislation were explained. A total of 27 pretrial detainees were interviewed. They also visited the maintenance detachment, which houses 12 individuals. No complaints regarding conditions of detention were received.
A stateless person, identified by a temporary identity card, was also received. The applicant received the necessary explanations and answered all his questions.
Following the administration's visit, the institution's administration noted the need for cosmetic repairs to certain rooms, as well as the need to replenish the library's collection.
