We visited Penal Colony No. 19 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Republic of Tatarstan with participants of the program "Batyrlar. Heroes of Tatarstan"
Today, we visited Penal Colony No. 19 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan together with our intern, Bulat Nazipov, who is completing an internship at the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner of the Republic of Tatarstan as part of the "Batyrlar: Heroes of Tatarstan" program. We were also joined by Denis Basariev, an intern for Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Leyla Fazleeva, who is also participating in the same program.
During the visit, we introduced the program participants to the work of rehabilitation units for prisoners suffering from drug and psychotropic substance addiction. They were able to see firsthand how classes are organized and the methods used for social adaptation and recovery.
Furthermore, we inspected the prison conditions and discussed the organization of work with prisoners. This experience allowed the "Batyrlar: Heroes of Tatarstan" program participants to become more familiar with human rights protection practices in prisons and understand the importance of this work.
