Today, as part of the Decade of Disabled Persons, a Legal Aid Day was held for suspects, accused and convicted persons who are disabled and held in penal institutions of the Republic of Tatarstan. The reception was held at the Federal Penitentiary Service Directorate for the Republic of Tatarstan via videoconference, together with representatives of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Russian Ministry of Justice Directorate for the Republic of Tatarstan and the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan.
I was approached by citizens held in correctional institutions Penal colony No. 2, Penal colony No. 3, Penal colony No. 5 and Penal colony No. 10. The questions concerned medical care, changing the disability group, obtaining housing for orphans, processing documents, confirming work experience and transferring to forced labor. Each of the questions raised was carefully considered, and the applicants received explanations and recommendations.
The conditions of detention of disabled persons in correctional institutions are under my special control.
