A lively discussion on the protection of the rights of the elderly took place in the Office of the Ombudsman
Today, a round table on the protection of the rights of elderly citizens was held at the Office of the Ombudsman. Undoubtedly, the topic is acute and important, but also very controversial, because there is no definite opinion on it. So, today we listened to the heads of private boarding houses for the elderly, as well as representatives of ministries and departments directly working with this category of citizens.
In the Republic of Tatarstan, there are 34 state institutions for the elderly and disabled, including 6 for people with mental disorders, 26 boarding houses for the elderly and disabled, 2 for people without a fixed abode, in which about 5 thousand people live.
The presence of private boarding houses for the elderly is undoubtedly necessary. However, it is very important for us that the rights and freedoms of people placed in these institutions are in no way violated, so it is very important to work together and together, in a single link.
We have developed a number of proposals, expressed comments revealed during the monitoring of the activities of these institutions. A boarding school is not a place where you can hand over a person as unnecessary. Basically, those who, due to life circumstances, are left without housing, without relatives - released from prison, need constant outside care end up in boarding houses. I hope that our cooperation will continue in the future!
