The Public Chamber of the Republic of Tatarstan held a meeting on the topic of “working houses”, which was attended by an employee of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Tatarstan.
In recent years, a new phenomenon has appeared in the subjects of the Russian Federation - “workhouses”, which provide temporary housing, food, assistance in finding jobs and restoring documents for citizens. Undoubtedly, this idea is aimed at helping people in difficult life situations. However, often the creation of such houses is connected with selfish purposes and citizens find themselves in an almost hopeless situation.
The meeting was attended by representatives of public authorities and public organizations, who spoke about problematic issues in the regulation of this activity.
During the meeting it was noted that this activity is currently outside the legal framework, which often leads to violations of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens who are in “workhouses”. In turn, the work on legislative consolidation of the status of “workhouses”, introduction of relevant amendments to the existing normative legal acts will require detailed elaboration with the participation of specialized state bodies and public organizations.
The information obtained during the discussion will be useful in carrying out our activities.
