Today I visited two probation centers in Kazan: the Yardem Charitable Foundation's Probation Center and the Tatarstan Resocialization Fund's Probation Center.
These centers were created to accommodate individuals released from prison and ready to start a new life with a clean slate. They are provided with free accommodation and assistance with employment and social adaptation.
The Yardem Probation Center has 15 beds. The Tatarstan Resocialization Fund's Probation Center has 12 beds, but currently only six people are on probation there.
Experience shows that the first months after release largely determine a person's future fate, so these centers serve a significant social function.
