Eternal Memory to the Heroes: Honoring the Fallen in World War I

1 August 2025, Friday

Today we pay tribute and mourn the millions of Russian soldiers and officers whose lives were taken by the First World War - one of the most tragic and bloody events of the 20th century.

Beginning as a military conflict between the largest powers of Europe, the First World War quickly turned into a global catastrophe. Our people showed unprecedented courage, fortitude and selflessness on the battlefields of East Prussia, the Carpathians, and Galicia. More than a million Russian soldiers did not return from the war.

Our sacred duty is to preserve this memory. To pass it on to our descendants as part of our common history, as a reminder of the price of peace and the need to protect human life. Eternal glory to our heroes!
