The protection of the rights of accused, convicted and defendants is under the special control of the Commissioner for Human Rights

24 December 2024, Tuesday

Today, a meeting of the Expert Council was held dedicated to the observance of human rights in places of forced detention and temporary stay.

During the meeting, the results of the work of the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner for the current year were discussed. In particular, it was noted that in 2024, the number of people in the institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Republic of Tatarstan decreased by more than 2 times.

Particular attention was paid to the issues and complaints of convicts related to disagreement with the preventive measure chosen by the court, medical care, the right to early release, the establishment of a disability group, and the appointment of a pension. All issues are considered in cooperation with the relevant authorities.

Legal education of convicts was also discussed. This year, 14 joint receptions were held, and video materials were prepared for broadcasting in correctional institutions, explaining the rights of citizens to appeal court decisions, medical care, and parole.

I thank all the participants of the Expert Council! We hope for further fruitful cooperation!
