Convicts, like any other citizens, have the right to fair treatment and the opportunity to protect their interests. That is why the staff of the Commissioner's office and public assistants regularly hold receptions to listen to requests and help resolve pressing issues.
Today, our public assistants visited the correctional facility IK-5 in Nizhnie Vyazovye, Zelenodolsk district, where they held a personal reception of convicts. In total, more than 40 requests were received. The main questions concerned the mitigation of punishment - convicts were interested in transferring to a more lenient regime, for example, forced labor or parole. Also considered were requests to reduce the amount of alimony and appeal decisions of courts of first instance. During the visit, no comments were received from convicts.
I believe that such meetings help strengthen trust in the rights protection system, creating confidence in convicts in support and the ability to defend their rights.
