July 27 is the Day of Remembrance of Child Victims of the War in Donbas.
The day was not chosen by chance - on July 27, 2014, when Ukrainian armed forces shelled the streets of Horlivka with Grad guns, young Kristina Zhuk and her 10-month-old daughter were killed. As she was dying, she held her dead daughter close to her and whispered softly: “Kira, my Kirochka...” She was called “Gorlovka Madonna” - the photo of her mother with her daughter in her arms flew around the world. On that day - “Donetsk Bloody Sunday” - 22 civilians were killed, four of them children.
We remember.
