Sabantui in the village of Srednaya Elyuzan, Penza Oblast

Tatarstan is planning to hold 339 Sabantuys this year, including in Russian regions.

Sabantui is a rather ancient holiday. It marks the celebrations dedicated to the end of spring field work. The celebration is a synthesis of nomadic and sedentary cultures, for its history has passed a long and interesting path of development. Nowadays Sabantui is one of the key elements of the culture of Turkic and Finno-Ugric peoples. And for Tatars and Bashkirs Sabantuy has long become a national celebration. 

Adelina Mursalimova, Head of the Information and Analytical Department of the Commissioner's Office, took part in the Tatar folk festival “Sabantui”, which was organized in the village of Srednaya Elyuzan, Penza region.

Srednaya Elyuzan is one of the largest Tatar villages in Europe and the largest settlement in the Gorodishchensky district of the Penza region.

During the holiday, horse races and trotting races, a competition of batyrs, and a gala concert were held at the hippodrome.
