Today, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tatarstan held a meeting of the Coordinating Council on measures taken to prevent recidivism among convicted juveniles who are registered with the prison inspectorates. The participants of the meeting noted the need to implement a comprehensive socio-psychological approach to the rehabilitation and resocialization of juvenile convicts registered with the penal correction inspectorate.
When dealing with juveniles who are inclined to commit offences, it is advisable to conduct educational and preventive measures, which will include the identification of adverse conditions for the development of the child, the suppression and elimination of the action of anti-social influence, as well as behavior correction. We are working separately with this category of convicted persons. For example, in all municipalities of the Republic I have public assistants who, if necessary, go to the place (to correctional institutions) and hold meetings with minors.
Last March, we held a round table on "Respect for the rights of suspects, accused persons and convicted persons, including juveniles, in penal institutions", where we developed certain recommendations and proposals that have now been introduced.
