XV Baku International Conference of Ombudsmen

On June 20, the Baku International Conference of Ombudsmen on "The Role of National Human Rights Institutions in promoting and encouraging legal equality" began its work in Baku.

The conference is dedicated to the Day of Human Rights in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the 100th anniversary of the establishment the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan, the 95th anniversary of the national leader Heydar Aliyev and the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Commissioner of Human Rights in the Republic of Tatarstan, Sariya Saburskaya, moderated the first session "Protection of the Rights of Population Groups: Equal Opportunities for Equal Rights", at which international experts and ombudsmen from foreign countries discussed the implementation of the principle of legal equality in modern realities, exchanged experience in implementing the policy of social protection of vulnerable groups of the population.

Later the Tatarstan Ombudsman addressed the participants of the conference with the report "Promoting the observance of the rights of convicted persons during and after serving their chastisement: cooperation the Commissioner with state bodies and civil society institutions".

In her speech, the Commissioner highlighted the topic of promoting legal education in the field of human and civil rights and freedoms and providing accessible and free legal assistance to persons held in correctional institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan.

In August 2015, the Commissioner introduced a new form of interactive work with the applicants - holding Days of Legal Assistance in Correctional Institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan.
