International conference organized by the European Institute of Ombudsman

3 November 2023, Friday

Today, an international conference organized by the European Ombudsman Institute is taking place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The conference focuses on the role of human rights ombudsmen in protection against discrimination, with particular attention to religious rights.
This important topic is discussed with colleagues from Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Germany, Switzerland, Djibouti and Cyprus, with the understanding that it concerns all people without exception. And for us - Russians - it is especially important and symbolic, because today’s conference is being held on the eve of the Day of National Unity, celebrated on November 4.

The Russian delegation is represented by Tatyana Nikolayevna Moskalkova, commissioners from Dagestan, Tatarstan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Yaroslavl and Sverdlovsk regions.

I was given the floor to talk about the experience of the Republic of Tatarstan in the sphere of harmonization of inter-ethnic and interfaith relations, and I was very pleased to share with colleagues the work we are doing in this direction (including the Assembly of Peoples of Tatarstan, the Rais Council on Inter-ethnic and Interfaith Relations, the activities of the Year of National Cultures and Traditions announced in the republic in 2023, our cooperation with religious organizations, etc.).
